Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions can be helped by BCST?

BCST can help in treating a variety of conditions including physical and emotional stress as well as the release of long held trauma and fascial restrictions.

Fundamentally BCST is nervous system care. It supports nervous system regulation and allows the resolution of conditions stemming from stress and trauma.

Below are some of the many conditions that respond well to BCST.

  • Before starting, we chat and identify your overall health and lifestyle concerns. Then you lie down and rest on a massage table, fully clothed and comfortable, while I use a light touch to listen your body.

Often a session will begin by touching your feet and can move to the head, or sacrum, or anywhere else indicated, as guided by your body. I will always tell you where my hands will be placed, and check-in with you to assess your level of comfort.

A typical session is 60-minutes, from intake to closure.

Babies and toddlers are treated in the arms or in the presence of the caregiver and are typically 30-minute sessions.

  • The number of sessions needed will depend on a few things including your symptoms; your goals; and how your system responds to this therapy.

Generally, 3-10 sessions will have a significant impact on most people’s health. In some cases, even just one session can make a dramatic difference. Clients will often receive regular sessions over a period of time, and then switch to the occasional “tune-up” to maintain health.

A single session can leave you feeling rested and resourced; it will often take several sessions to resolve a particular condition.

  • BCST is both safe and recommended as it calms the nervous system of both mother and baby.

The nervous systems of the mother and baby can become overwhelmed or “short circuited” during the stress and/or trauma of birth. This is especially so with complicated births requiring medical interventions.

As BCST sooths the mother’s system, the nervous system of the baby is also soothed, resetting the conditions for emotional bonding and co-regulation between mother and baby.

  • Children respond well to BCST. Things can be resolved in infancy and childhood - often with just a few sessions - which might otherwise develop into a long-term condition or issue.

Children often have a remarkable intuitive understanding of what happens during a BCST session, and appreciate its gentle approach and non-invasive nature.

Wiggly toddlers are treated while playing or sitting with their caregiver. A toddler session is typically 30 minutes long.
